Scouts Go Farther - Niclas Meyer

Welcome to our Scout Motors employee spotlight featuring VP of Concept & Systems Architecture Engineering, Niclas Meyer.

Where do you call home?

Whereever my family is. That could be Shanghai, Berlin…or Detroit, where I am now.

What motivates you at work?

To write automotive history while working with a super talented team.

How did you get into your current field?

I always wanted to work in automotive engineering. After my university degree I chose to go into car concept development because you can get a good overview about the whole vehicle very fast. You can best influence the final result in the beginning of the project.

What does a typical day at Scout look like for you?

Start calls with Europe at 7am for the whole morning and discuss engineering topics. Later in the day have meeting with my team and other teams that we work together with. Usually look at a lot of CAD data during the day and take many small decisions every day.

What was exciting to you about joining Scout?

I was (and still am) very excited about the brand, the off-road technology and the fact that we’re building a new company.

What skills do you use on an everyday basis?

Engineering judgement, teamwork and leadership skills. I always try to create a team culture that allows a lot of freedom to unfold each person’s creativity to achieve the best results.

What has been one highlight of your journey here so far?

The spirit of the early project phase with just a few people, the relocation from Berlin to Detroit and the Concept Day for the project with the whole team in Novi.

What is one thing about you most folks don’t know?

That I founded a baseball team when I was 16 years old and kept playing for more than 10 years in the German baseball league (which is internationally very insignificant)

What is your favorite hobby?

Real football (soccer) and all the games that my son Mikita comes up with.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

I’ve been travelling to Portugal for many years because I love the rugged nature, simple fresh food and modest people.

If you could go back and tell your 13-year-old self anything, what would it be?

Buy as much crypto as you can as soon as it becomes available.

Where do you hope to be in five years?

Still in Detroit.
