ome people find a role that fits their résumé. Others find one that fits their passions. For Matt Eiden, joining Scout Motors in July 2024 felt like both — the moment his career experience aligned perfectly with his lifelong love for cars.
“Being able to combine my construction and real estate background with my passion for cars is a dream come true,” he said.
Today, Matt plays a pivotal role in procuring construction materials for our Blythewood Production Center as he helps shape the facility that will build our future Scout® vehicles. He works hand-in-hand with the construction team to source the materials and resources needed to keep the project moving forward. When he first stepped into the role, the pace and scale felt a little like “drinking from a fire hydrant,” he admits. Nearly two years later, he’s confident and in full stride.
That can be mostly accredited to Matt’s personality, which he describes as a “seesaw” — not for its ups and downs, but for the balance it requires. Staying even-keeled and grounded is one of his greatest strengths in both life and work.
When zeroing in on his working style, he compared himself to a car transmission. Shifting gears depending on the pace of the day, adapting to changing demands, and keeping momentum moving forward without stalling.
This steady approach fuels his commitment to teamwork. The Scout Way value that resonates most for him is Go Together, especially as he collaborates across Indirect Purchasing and partners closely with teams advancing the Blythewood project.
“As a kid, seeing those cool cars sitting in the driveway at an impressionable age really stuck with me. It sparked something.”

A Passion Built in the Driveway
Matt’s love of cars started early — quite literally in his family driveway. His father worked for General Motors and occasionally brought home company vehicles.
“As a kid, seeing those cool cars sitting in the driveway at an impressionable age really stuck with me,” he said. “It sparked something.”
That early exposure shaped a lifelong goal to work for an automotive company.
His path there wasn’t direct, but it was formative.
Matt graduated from The Citadel with a degree in criminal justice and began his career in law enforcement in Charleston, South Carolina. He later transitioned into real estate across the Carolinas, which led him into the construction industry. Starting as a residential home construction supervisor, he gained firsthand knowledge of building operations before moving into procurement.
When he saw the opportunity at Scout Motors, he recognized that his diverse background uniquely prepared him for the role.
One of Matt’s favorite memories from his time at Scout Motors so far came earlier this year while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. Wearing his Scout national reveal shirt, he walked past a restaurant table and heard someone say excitedly, “That guy is wearing a Scout shirt!”
“That kind of brand excitement motivates me,” he shared. “It makes me proud to be part of our company and the automotive history.”
Matt learned to drive in a 1982 Chevy Malibu Estate Wagon, bought a 1988 Chevy Beretta GT as his first car, and still has a soft spot for the 1964 VW Beetle he once owned before his daughter was born.
And when it comes to his future Scout vehicle, there was no hesitation. Matt reserved his spot in line for the Traveler SUV the same day it was revealed and already knows his first destination: the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall, surrounded by mountain views.

Family, Football, and Early Morning Starts
When Matt’s not helping drive the Blythewood project forward, he’s creating memories with his family, traveling, discovering new foods, or gathering for football season. Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, he’s a lifelong Washington Commanders fan.
His days start early … very early. A natural early riser, he’s up at “0’dark thirty” (generally around 4:30 a.m.) for a workout.
“It’s time I give to myself,” he says, “so I can give the rest of the day back to my family and my work.”
Whether he’s sourcing critical materials, traveling to new places with his family, or watching Jayden Daniels throw touchdown passes, Matt Eiden brings balance and pride to everything he does.
And when the day comes that he’s headed to the Blue Ridge Parkway, it’ll be more than a road trip. It’ll be the full circle moment he’s been working toward since a kid standing in a driveway, watching his dad pull up in something cool.
