Scouts Go Farther - Chablise Davis
Welcome to our Scout Motors employee spotlight featuring Technical Recruiter, Chablise Davis
Where do you call home?
I am currently located in Atlanta, Georgia.
What motivates you at work?
As a recruiter I have the ability to connect with tons of people from different countries, socioeconomic statuses, educational backgrounds, etc. It is my belief that “the professional is personal” and I am motivated by knowing that I have the opportunity to aid individuals in changing their lives by landing their next perfect role. Every position at Scout is someone’s dream opportunity and gives them the chance to align their passions with the need to provide for themselves and their families in such a difficult job market. I am inspired by how driven and thoughtful all my candidates are, and I am incredibly honored to be a part of history in the making.
How did you get into your current field?
Upon graduating from Spelman College, I joined Oracle as a technical sales professional where I excelled and was named top rep on my team quarter over quarter. I learned that while I was very good at sales it, unfortunately, did not speak to the part of me that needed to feel connected to my work. By reflecting on all the experiences that led me to that point, I realized I wanted to be able to leverage that skillset in a way that could spark a flame within me. I had already been assisting the university recruiting team in their DEI efforts, so I was able to easily express my interest in joining their team whenever there was an opening. As luck would have it several positions became available within a couple of weeks, and I was able to transition into recruiting full time. It has been such a blast that I have stuck with it ever since!
What does a typical day at Scout look like for you?
In my opinion, Scouts don’t have typical days because we are too busy going first and trying new things (haha!). That said, in a typical week I am managing all of my open requisitions via active and passive recruiting methods, conducting phone screens, leading syncs with my internal stakeholders, processing offers, and sending funny gifs to my teammates because it is imperative that we keep morale high!
What was exciting to you about joining Scout?
When I interviewed to join Scout the People Team was an army of 3. I vividly recall laughing with Megan about there being such limited press that I couldn’t find much on the company prior to our call. Even though Scout was less than 6 months old at the time, the interview process was so comforting that I decided to set aside any nervous feelings and take the leap. Now, over a year later, I am so glad I did. If I think about it for too long it makes me a bit emotional to recognize how incredible this whole experience is.
What skills do you use on an everyday basis?
On a daily basis I am heavily leveraging my “soft skills” with people (communication, building trust, etc) as well as attention to detail. It is critical in my role that all of my stakeholders, internal and external, trust me to work with and for them throughout the hiring process.
What has been one highlight of your journey here so far?
One highlight of my time at Scout was traveling to Novi, MI and meeting the engineering teams I support as well as other recruiters on the People Team in person for the first time! Getting to work side by side for a few days in office was an awesome experience. It is also just incredible to walk in any of our offices and realize that there are so many fresh, unknown faces because my teammates have been doing an amazing job at hiring!
What is one thing about you most folks don’t know?
I like to think that I am an open book but one thing most Scouts probably don’t know about me is that I sang with John Legend and the Roots when I was in middle school. I also tap danced a little bit as a kid and have been on TV so I guess you could say I am a triple threat that chose to bring their talents to recruiting!
What is your favorite hobby?
I have always been a huge reader so I would have to say reading is my favorite hobby. I am a member of a book club in Atlanta and one of my dreams is to have an in-home library.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I love to travel and do so as much as I can. My dream location is Japan, mostly because some of my favorite books are inspired by Japanese philosophy and I expect that I would learn even more being there in person.
If you could go back and tell your 13-year-old self anything, what would it be?
If I could tell my 13-year-old self anything it would be “it gets better with time. YOU get better with time.”
Where do you hope to be in five years?
Five years from now I hope to be thriving as a leader on my team, traveling even more, making memories with my family, and most importantly proud of the journey that continues to shape me.
