January 2025 Scout Motors Production Center Update
Welcome to our monthly progress updates on the construction of our new Scout Motors Production Center. In March 2023, we unveiled our plan for Scout Motors to build our new Scout® vehicles at a state-of-the-art factory to be built in Blythewood, South Carolina. The site, which spans a vast 1,100 acres, is strategically located about 20 minutes north and east of Columbia, South Carolina. This substantial $2–billion investment is set to revolutionize the region, creating over 4,000 permanent jobs. At peak capacity, we plan to produce 200,000 vehicles a year at the Production Center – that’s 40 per hour. We are thrilled to share our progress with you as construction continues.
The new Scout vehicles will be built on a newly designed body-on-frame electric vehicle platform. As you can see in the photo above, our Production Center’s main structures include a body shop, a paint shop, and final assembly buildings. The site also features a state-of-the-art training center for our employees and a technology center to support our future vehicles.
This month kicked off another major milestone at our Scout Motors Production Center. The South Carolina Department of Transportation along with local and state officials and Scout Motors leadership participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Scout Motors Drive Interchange Project (pictured above and below).
The purpose of the Scout Motors Drive Interchange Project is to serve the future Scout Motors Manufacturing facility with a dedicated connection to I-77 to help keep truck traffic confined and provide access for future economic development.
Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell said, “We are excited to begin the construction phase of this project that will be vital to continuing development in Blythewood and the surrounding areas. SCDOT is committed to keeping people and products flowing through our state and we are looking forward to doing that alongside Scout Motors and the community.”
This close-up of the main assembly building (above) shows continued progress made in erecting steel and additional roof decking. Approximately 98% of the steel has been installed so far. Assembly building foundations are 96% complete.
When completed, the assembly building will span nearly 1.3 million square feet.
The paint shop (above) exterior walls are nearly complete. The concrete floors are also nearly complete, paving the way for utilities to go in next.
The body shop (above) work continues at a brisk pace. 98% of the total steel has been erected, and 96% of the foundations have been installed.
The body shop will have more than 600 total foundations that will support 1.3 million square feet of space.
