hen we brought back the iconic Scout® brand name with the reveal of our two concept vehicles, it became one of the most exciting automotive stories in years. That was our goal.

By blending timeless design with cutting-edge innovation, the Scout Traveler™ SUV and Scout Terra™ truck captivated the public’s imagination. But we know you still have questions.

So here’s everything you need to know about the Traveler SUV. Join us for a deep dive into the projected specifications, including engineering, design features, interior layout, and pricing.

Flexible energy systems and two range options

There’s a growing demand for eco-conscious yet powerful vehicles. So we’re planning to offer the Traveler SUV with both all-electric and range-extended energy systems.

Whatever setup you choose, the Scout Traveler is projected to hit 60 miles per hour from a standstill in as little as 3.5 seconds1, with nearly 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque1 hitting the four-wheel-drive system.

The fully electric model is for those seeking zero-emissions driving. This version is expected to deliver up to 350 miles2 of range in near-silence on a single charge.

The Extended Range Option uses our innovative Harvester™ energy system. A small gas engine recharges the vehicle’s high-voltage battery, with a target of extending the total range to over 500 miles2. It’s an approach that preserves the performance benefits of electric propulsion while offering the reassurance of a fuel-based backup.

When it’s time to charge, the Traveler SUV will support the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and utilizes an 800-volt architecture with up to 350 kW charging capability. This will give you quick charging times and bi-directional charging capabilities—so you can use it as a backup power supply for not only your campsite, but also your home.

The Scout® Traveler™ ushers in a new era of iconic design and rugged performance.

Next-level engineering and performance

We’re giving the Scout Traveler a body-on-frame chassis, to ensure durability and resilience in the toughest conditions. Unlike most, this SUV will be equipped with a solid rear axle and offer mechanical lockers on both the front and rear axles, for exceptional off-road performance.

An anticipated towing capacity of over 7,000 pounds1 will make it easy to haul trailers, boats, or other hefty loads. And the payload is targeted at nearly 2,000 pounds1—plenty enough if you’re packing gear for a long trip.

Ground clearance is anticipated to be more than 12 inches, for peace of mind when navigating rocky terrain and rutted trails. And if you come across water, you’ll be glad to know the planned fording depth is almost three feet.

We are also planning to offer an off-road suspension option that includes a front sway bar disconnect, for added flexibility in tough conditions.

Eye-catching design

The Scout Traveler pays homage to its classic predecessors while embracing cutting-edge automotive engineering. We’ve designed it with both adventure seekers and families in mind, giving the Traveler SUV an imposing, rugged look. And just like its predecessors, it’s defined by a short front overhang and a long dash-to-axle ratio.

The front trunk has room for golf clubs, a gym bag, and a small cooler. Plus 120V and USB-C outlets for powering multiple devices. At the back, there’s a split tailgate giving you easy access to cargo as well as protection from the elements when opened.

You’ll be able to choose from multiple roof types, including a glass roof with expansive sky views or a Cabana Top—targeted to be one of the largest roof openings of any SUV.

The size of the Scout Traveler strikes a balance between practical space and maneuverability. We’ve given it an imposing presence and spacious interior without compromising its ability to tackle narrow trails.

The new Traveler is a rugged design with iconic proportions inspired by the original Scout vehicles manufactured by International Harvester from 1961-80

Refined interior design and convenient features

The interior of the Traveler SUV is where tough meets timeless. We’ve packed it with durable materials and innovative tech to enhance your driving experience.

It’s a cabin with room to stretch out. There’s a multifunctional center console for maximum storage space, but you can also specify optional front bench seats for the ultimate in retro cool—and three-abreast seating.

There’s a touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster, and we’ve designed them to be exceptionally intuitive. Everything is linked by our Community UX™ interface, and it’s easy to change functions to suit your preferences.

Over-the-air (OTA) updates and remote diagnostic capabilities will keep the system current and responsive, enhancing long-term vehicle value. While high-resolution camera views and available advanced driver-assistance systems will make every journey secure and enjoyable.

On the flip side, you’ll also find plenty of nods to the aesthetic of the original Scout II™—including toggle switches and tactile knobs for many of the functions. Because we know that nobody wants fiddly menus when the flick of a switch will do.

Customize your Scout Traveler

Every adventure is unique, so you’ll be able to personalize your Traveler SUV with a comprehensive lineup of options and accessories. That includes materials, colors, and loadouts.

If you like to hit the trail, you’re especially lucky. You’ll be able to specify 35-inch tires for maximum off-road capability, additional lighting options for improved visibility, and off-road enhancements like sturdy recovery points, heavy-duty winches, and off-road bumpers.

At ease on both off-road trails and urban streets, the Scout Traveler is set to redefine the modern SUV experience, capturing the hearts of adventure enthusiasts and families alike.
